the sweet theoretical lovin of dominique.

Ok. so pm harper. damn..that does not have a nice ring to it. oh wellz. i have a euro pass. sianara.

bah. im supposed to be writting my manifesto..for the bowel movement..but im not really into manifestoing it up...id rather write about dominique..and make aija crazy/jealous..of my marxist theoretical lovin.

Dominique is teaching me about the rise of the french seperatist movement in the sixties..and it is the hottest thing ever. 1. because its dominique. 2. because its quebec. 3. because its about the flq. 4. because its a la historical materialism. 5. because i get to be an ass and liken things to the euro revs of 1968..which is only my most favorite thing to do.

anyways...i wanted to ask a theoretical question in class..and sometimes dominique...will only discuss those kinds of questions with me outside class..bc...as we all have to remember..questions in this class..range from: so..is multiculturalism what we do? to.. "if we move he thing..you know..the like..thing...where people like debate..the parliament to victoria..would that get rid of western alianation?" students in this class..can be exponentially lame.

im going to throw the theoretical question out there:

When dominique was talking about french nationalism..he refused to say that nationalism was derived exclusively through the left/socialist/workers movement in Quebec. THis is interesting..because while opposed to admitting this...He basically said..that people moved against the oppresive forces of the church..and the economic hardship of the anglos..into a more socialist state. why: because through the democratic election of a socialist government the people would be able to take the power from the anglos..and put it back in french hands: how? nationalization of stuff. ok. doesnt this confound the definition of nationalism...and socialism..to some extent. According to some..true socialists..marxists..cannot be nationalists..because nationalism serves the ELITES. Elites are able to create imagined communities whereby citizens are constrained by artificial realities..but in this case..it seems that the opposite was true..the imagined community in quebec was able to generate political movement..and social unrest. It was able to turn on the Elites...rather than help them. WHY? Quebec nationalism..seems to be serving..quebeckers?

Dominique has a thought..apparently...and he is going to discuss it with me on wen. haha..aija. you are lucking out.

Why is Quebec so damn... the best province alive?

interesting muse on nationalism and socialism. theortically, old-school socialist thinkers are against nationalism. but i think the new directions in socialist thought have embraced these kinds of linkages. especially in canada, this is the tone not only in quebec but also in the more radical part of the NDP. the waffle movement in the 70's and their attempt to takeover the party had a nationalist aspect to it. the goal was to kick out all american foregin investment and nationalize the economy, to make canada independent of the oppressive american yoke.

this thinking also is very big in south america as all the governments have played to nationalist against the americans, and obviously in china as well. in fact, i'd go so far to say that nationalistic socialism is much more prevailant than utopian socialism where the goal is to eliminate nationalism. even with the mainstream social democrats like layton, he always plays up themes of nationalism.

the same goes for quebec. it is a nation. people do whats good for the nation, and there are direct corelations to socialist thought. i've actualy read tons on this topic and could probably give you some more leads on the topic if your interested in pursuing this in an essay. there was a book actually, 'the white niggers', or something along those lines that francophones were oppresed by the anglos in the same way african americans were opporessed by whites.

i (heart) discussing socialist theory, thats what we are doing next week in my tutorials! :)
